About Me

You're probably following me because I toured with Paradise Fears once. They're my best friends but I'm a boring biology student now, my apologies. Stay tuned for my strange taste in movies, music and science. And yes, occasionally some PF things.

You know that, um, none of this would’ve happened if you hadn’t joined the band. And I mean that in a good way.

I like you for phrasing it this way.

5 Things Everyone Gets Wrong About Mental Illness

#5. It’s Freaking Impossible to Get Treatment
In parts of our country, there is one psychiatrist for every 30,000 citizens. Considering that 1 in 4 Americans has a diagnosable mental disorder, that’s roughly the equivalent of a single NFL referee explaining the last call to each person in the stands individually.

Technology at it’s cutest — The Bipedal Cycling Robot

In 2011, robot creator Masahiko Yamaguchi demonstrated a robot which can balance, steer and correct itself while riding a fixed-gear bike.

Full video with more information here.

Hipster-Bot 5000

The first day I learned how to ride a bike I ran into a parked car and had to go to the emergency room but this thing has no problem.

the license plate is the chemical equation for glucose

Sorry…nit picking chemistry rant…
First, this isn’t an equation…chemical equations are a representation of a reaction, this is a representation of a single molecule which we call a molecular formula. Second, you can’t tell what molecule C6H12O6 is from this molecular formula, it could be a number of different molecules.
The cool thing about sugars is that nearly all monosaccharides have the same molecular formula. Fructose, glucose, galactose, fucose…they all have the same molecular formula but different molecular structures.
Glucose is the most common C6H12O6, but there are probably more than a dozen others. There may even be some molecules with that molecular formula that aren’t even sugars…though I’m not able to think of any off hand. So, yeah, the “sugarcube” is completely accurate and extremely clever. But I couldn’t stand by and let this completely esoteric misuse of chemical terminology pass.

LOLOLOLOL I was literally scrolling down, getting ready to post a chemistry rant, and then oh….Hank already took care of it. Thank you, Hank.
